My Skin Has Changed. Now What?
A Simple Skincare Guide for Women Over 50
Because your skin deserves care that grows with you.
Have you ever looked in the mirror and thought, “When did my skin start feeling so different?”
Maybe the moisturizer you’ve used for years doesn’t seem to be enough anymore. Your skin feels drier, fine lines are more noticeable, or the glow you once took for granted seems to have disappeared.
If that sounds familiar, you’re certainly not alone.
Hi, I’m Diana, and at 77, I understand that our skin changes. I’ve experienced those changes myself.
But here’s something I want every woman to know:
Changing skin doesn’t mean you need a complicated skincare routine. It means you need to understand what your skin needs now.
Why Does Our Skin Change as We Age?
As we get older, several natural changes take place.
Our skin generally produces less oil, making dryness more common. Cell turnover slows, so the surface may look dull or feel rough. Collagen and elastin change over time, affecting firmness and elasticity.
Hormonal changes, especially during and after menopause, can also influence how our skin looks and feels.
And then there’s everything else: the sun, the weather, our environment, and the habits we’ve developed over a lifetime.
It’s no wonder our skin doesn’t behave exactly as it did at 30 or 40!
The good news? There are simple ways to support healthier-looking, more comfortable skin at every age.
Where Do You Start?
One of the biggest mistakes I see is women purchasing treatment after treatment without first establishing a good skincare foundation.
I believe in starting with the basics.
1. Cleanse Gently
Your skin needs to be clean, but it shouldn’t feel tight or stripped afterward.
Choose a cleanser suited to your skin type, and remember that the cleanser you loved ten years ago might not be the best choice today.
2. Moisturize Consistently
Mature skin often needs more support to stay comfortable and hydrated.
A daytime moisturizer helps maintain moisture throughout the day, while an evening moisturizer can support your skin’s overnight routine.
3. Don’t Forget Your Eyes
The skin around our eyes is delicate and often shows changes earlier than other areas.
A suitable eye cream can help keep this area moisturized and improve the appearance of dryness-related fine lines.
4. Protect Your Skin Every Day
Daily broad-spectrum sunscreen is one of the most important steps for helping prevent additional sun-related skin damage.
And yes, it matters even when you’re not planning a day at the beach.
What About Serums and Treatments?
This is where skincare can become confusing.
You’ll hear about hydration serums, vitamin C, retinol, peptides, exfoliation, and all kinds of exciting ingredients.
I love learning about skincare ingredients and explaining what they do. But I don’t believe every woman needs every product.
A treatment should have a purpose.
Perhaps you’re concerned about dehydration. Maybe your skin feels rough, or you’re noticing changes in firmness.
Once we identify your primary concern, we can explore whether a targeted treatment belongs in your routine.
The goal isn’t to collect products. It’s to understand why you’re using them.
My Approach: Education Before Selling
When I help a woman with her skincare, I want to know what she’s already using, what concerns her, and what she’s hoping to improve.
I also want to know what fits her lifestyle and budget.
A routine only works when you’re comfortable following it.
And sometimes, the best place to begin is by simplifying what you already have.
At 77, I’m still learning about my skin, too. I don’t believe skincare is about trying to look 30 again.
It’s about caring for the skin we’re in and feeling good when we look in the mirror.
