Ten years ago, I took a selfie.

Nothing particularly remarkable about that.

I was sitting in my car, wearing my , and I had recently started something new.

SeneGence.

I was 67.

When I look at that photograph today, I sometimes wonder what I would say if I could sit down beside that woman and tell her what the next ten years were going to bring.

Because she had absolutely no idea.

I Didn’t Join to Start a Business

That’s probably the first thing I’d remind her.

I joined SeneGence for the sisterhood.

I’d discovered LipSense, but I wasn’t sitting there creating a 10-year business plan.

Then, with one of my LipSense purchases, I received a little sample of Climate Control.

I tried it.

And I became curious.

Why did my skin feel different?

What was in these products?

How did they work together?

That curiosity started me down a road I never expected.

The Products Made Me a Student

I didn’t want to simply tell women:

“This is a great product.”

I wanted to understand why.

So I learned.

I studied skincare and makeup.

I learned about ingredients, mature skin, colour theory and application.

I earned certifications.

And I tested everything on a very convenient mature-skincare model…

ME.

I started at 67.

I’m 77 today.

And I genuinely believe my skin looks better today than it did ten years ago.

I’m not trying to look 27.

I want to look and feel like the best version of Diana at 77.

That philosophy eventually became a big part of Be Ageless with Diana.

But Something Else Was Changing Too

While I was learning about products, I was also learning about myself.

I became more confident.

I started teaching.

I did demonstrations and workshops.

I stood in front of groups.

I became a leader.

I learned technology I never imagined I’d be learning in my seventies.

I started making videos.

I built a website.

I began writing a blog and newsletter.

And I’m still learning today.

That’s why one sentence has come to mean so much to me:

SeneGence didn’t just grow my business. It helped grow ME, and at 77, I’m still growing.

Then It Became Bigger Than Beauty

Over the years, this business has brought people into my life I never would have known otherwise.

SeneSisters from across Canada.

Customers who became friends.

Women I’ve taught.

Women I’ve learned from.

And opportunities to use what I do to help my community.

I’ve donated products, Ladies Nights and makeup workshops.

I’ve participated in community events and fundraisers.

And most recently, our Pawprints of Purpose fundraiser for City of Pickering Animal Services raised over $9,000.

When I joined SeneGence ten years ago, I certainly didn’t imagine any of that.

Something that started with beauty became about connection, community and purpose too.

What Does My Business Look Like Today?

That’s another thing I couldn’t have explained to the woman in that 2016 selfie.

Because my business grew as I grew.

Today I might be helping someone with her skincare routine.

Teaching a makeup technique.

Doing a Ladies Night.

Demonstrating products at an event.

Writing a blog.

Making a video.

Answering a customer’s question.

Preparing for a fundraiser.

Or sitting at home answering messages.

There isn’t one way to do this.

And that’s something I think is important for anyone considering SeneGence to understand.

Your Story Doesn’t Have to Look Like Mine

Maybe you love the products and simply want the distributor benefits.

Maybe you’d like some extra income.

Maybe you’re looking for friendship and connection.

Maybe you’d like something that’s yours.

Maybe you’re ready for a new challenge.

Maybe you want to build a business.

Or maybe you have absolutely no idea.

I didn’t either.

Your reason doesn’t have to be my reason.

Your journey doesn’t have to look like mine.

What Would I Tell the Woman in That First Selfie?

I think I’d tell her:

Say yes.

Not because everything will be easy.

Not because you’ll know what you’re doing.

And certainly not because you’ll know where it’s going to lead.

Say yes because you’re going to learn.

You’re going to meet wonderful people.

You’re going to discover things you’re good at that you don’t even know about yet.

You’re going to become more confident.

You’re going to help women.

You’re going to contribute to your community.

And ten years from now, at 77, you’re still going to be learning.

Still teaching.

Still trying new things.

Still growing.

And I think she’d be pretty surprised.

I know I am.
